Wintercanbeabeautifulseason,withsnowcoveringthegroundandmakingeverythinglooklikeawinterwonderland.Butitcanalsobeadauntingtime,whentheweathercanbecomeunpredictableanddangerous.Oneofthebiggesthazardsontheroadduringwinterisencounteringhugedriftsupagainstthepath,causedbyfiercewindsandheavysnowfall.Inthisarticle,Iwillsharemyexperienceofconfrontingblasthugedriftsupagainst,andhowittaughtmeimportantlessonsaboutsafetyandperseverance.
TheEncounter
Itwasacold,snowynight,andIwasdrivinghomefromwork.Thesnowhadbeenfallingheavilyallday,andthewindhadbeenpickingupspeed.Ihadalreadydriventhroughseveralpatchesofsnowdriftsthathadaccumulatedonthesidesoftheroad,butnothingcouldhavepreparedmeforwhatwastocome.AsIroundedabend,Isawaheadofmeawallofsnow,atleasteightfeethigh,stretchingacrosstheroadlikeafortress.Itwasablasthugedrift,andithadformedfromthefiercewindsdrivingthesnowacrosstheterrain.
TheChallenge
Iwasimmediatelystruckwithawaveoffearanduncertainty.HowwasIgoingtogetthroughthis?Thethoughtofreversingandfindinganalternativeroutecrossedmymind,butIknewthattherewasnowayaroundit–thiswastheonlyroadhome.Iwasfacedwithachallenge,andIhadtofindawaythroughit.Igotoutofmycarandsurveyedthescene.Thesnowwascompactedandhard,almostlikeice,anditwastoohightowalkover.IknewIwouldneedsomethingtohelpmeclearapassagethrough.
TheLesson
Ihadashovelinthetrunkofmycar,anditturnedouttobethebesttoolforthejob.Istarteddiggingintothesnow,tryingtocarveoutanarrowpaththroughthemiddleofthedrift.Itwashardandbackbreakingwork,butIslowlymadeprogress.Everynowandthen,Iwouldstoptocatchmybreath,andinthosemoments,Iwouldmarvelatthebeautyofthenight.Thesnowwaspureandwhite,andthestarsshonebrightinthesky.Eventually,afterwhatfeltlikeaneternity,Iclearedapathwideenoughtodrivethrough.
