BythetimewereachthefourthqualifyingroundinOctober,theNationalLeagueteamsenterthecompetition.ThesearethetopteamsfromthefifthandsixthtiersofEnglishfootball,whohavethechancetoupsethigher-rankedoppositionandprogresstothenextround.

NovemberseesthestartofthefirstroundproperoftheFACup.ThisiswhereteamsfromLeagueOneandLeagueTwo,thethirdandfourthtiersofEnglishfootball,enterthecompetition.TheyarejoinedbytheNationalLeagueteamswhomadeitthroughtheearlierrounds,aswellastheteamsfromthePremierLeagueandChampionship.Thisisthestagewherethebigteamsenterthefrayandthecompetitionstartstogetserious.
Thefirstroundproperisalsowheretheexcitementreallystartstokickinforfans.It'sastageinthecompetitionwhereanythingcanhappen,andsmallerteamshavetheopportunitytoupsettheirmoreillustriousopponents.Thisroundisplayedonaknockoutbasis,withextra-timeandpenaltiesusedtodetermineawinnerifnecessary.

AswemoveintothelaterroundsoftheFACup,thestakesgethigher.TeamsaredrawingclosertotheprospectofplayingatWembleyStadium,andthechancetoliftthefamoustrophybecomesevermorereal.ThefifthroundtakesplaceinFebruary,followedbythesixthroundinMarch.Theseroundsseethetopteamsremaininginthecompetitionpittedagainsteachother,withthewinnersprogressingtothesemi-finals.
Thesemi-finalstakeplaceinAprilatWembleyStadium,theiconicvenuethathashostedsomanymemorableFACupmatchesovertheyears.Thetwosemi-finalwinnersgoontoplayinthefinal,whichtakesplaceinMay.Thisisthemomentwhenthewholecountrycomestogethertowatchtheshowpieceeventofoneoftheworld'sgreatestcupcompetitions.
